Visit the Birch Aquarium
When you visit San Diego, you’ll almost certainly spend some time at the various beaches along the Pacific Ocean. Consider learning more about the various animals and species that call the Pacific Ocean home by visiting the Birch Aquarium at UCSD. Here, you’ll be able to explore the exhibits and learn something new about the specific biosphere of the San Diego area.
Located in La Jolla, the Birch Aquarium overlooks the Scripps Pier and offers beautiful views of the tide pool area. Year long, the Birch Aquarium offers various exhibits, educational programming, as well as conservation initiatives. The aquarium is at the Scripps Institution of oceanography at UC San Diego. One exciting exhibit that will be open until the spring is Infinity Cube: Language of Light. The exhibit showcases the results of a three month research project where artists recorded organisms who give bioluminescence. They recorded these organisms reacting to various things such as music, air pressure, water flow and the human heartbeat. When you enter the cube, you’ll be surrounded by video footage of the bioluminescence accompanied by soundscape. In addition to this, there are a number of different exhibits that showcase different species, habitats and more.
