Traveling in San Diego on a Budget
While some places in San Diego might be a little expensive, there are a number of things you can do without having to break the bank. Here are some ways that you can travel on a budget while in San Diego.
San Diego is known for its beaches. Even though there are so many you can choose from, Pacific Beach is definitely one that can give you some bang for your buck. With three miles of boardwalk, the people watching possibilities are nearly endless. In addition, you’ll find cheap bars and taco stands where no shoes and no shirt is no problem at all. If you want to see some surfers show off their tricks, head over to Tourmaline Surfing Park – a surfing only beach that offers great opportunities to soak in the sun while watching this classic southern California sport.
If you’re looking for something a little more active, look no further than Torrey Pines State Beach. The area has two challenging hiking trails that are frequented often. At the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve Park, you’ll find sandstone canyons, pine forests, and beautiful bluffs that overlook the sea. If you want a workout while seeing the beautiful landscape of San Diego, a hike at Torrey Pines State Park is just what you are looking for.
Family-friendly activities are not a rarity in San Diego. However, one of the best places to go on a budget is the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Not only is a ticket for children under $15, parking is free for the first three hours! Here you can enjoy a number of exhibits all about the natural organisms that call San Diego home. There are also many fun live events that are scheduled throughout the year. Visit www.aquarium.ucsd.edu for more information.
If all else fails, a picnic at Balboa Park is one of the simplest yet most enjoyable things that you can do. Balboa Park is a huge and beautiful stretch of land in San Diego that is home to many organizations such as the San Diego Natural History Museum, the Botanical Building, as well as a number of walking trails. Bring some food, set up at one of the many picnic tables and enjoy the people watching, the beautiful grounds, and the incredible weather. There are a variety of budget-friendly hotels in San Diego to choose from that will make your trip even better!
