One such theatre is the Old Globe SD located in Balboa Park. Over the years, the theatre has been hope to hundreds of productions, with 13 of them winning Tony Awards and the theatre even won a Tony Award for Outstanding REgional Theatre. The Old Globe theatre in San Diego is modeled after the famous Old Globe theatre in London where Shakespeare performed his plays. This upcoming May, there will be a production of A Thousand Splendid Suns. Based on the novel by Khaled Hosseini, the story is an epic spanning three generations of Afghan women that are bound together by family, marriage and a secret past all amidst the war-torn streets of a modern day Kabul. The novel has been adapted to the stage by playwright Ursula Rani Sarma. The play features original music by renowned composer, David Coulter.
