March Madness 2018 in San Diego

While March is known for the beginning of spring and daylight savings time, if you are a basketball fan, you’ll also know this month as the start of March Madness! The second and third rounds of the NCAA March Madness tournament will actually take place at San Diego State University’s Viejas Arena. The Viejas Arena in SD is actually one of the eight sites that have been selected to host tournament games. This year, SD will be a part of the March Madness from Friday, March 16th through Sunday, March 18th. Get your tickets today!


If you like watching sports but you’re not 100% sure what March Madness is, no need to worry. March Madness is single elimination style tournament that is held for NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball teams (the NCAA is the National Collegiate Athletic Association). During March, 68 collegiate teams participate in this single elimination tournament and is completed in seven rounds. The exciting penultimate round is known as the Final Four, where there are only four teams left. The Final Four is an exciting time in the tournament as it determines which two teams will be able to go the championship title!


Out of the 7 rounds that take place during March Madness, the first and second rounds will be taking place at the Viejas Arena at San Diego State University. Selection Sunday will take place on March 11th and this is when the 68 teams are selected to play in March Madness. There will be a number of first and second round match ups throughout the country taking place in city’s such as Dallas, Pittsburgh, Nashville, and Detroit.
