For starters, Balboa Park is more than just a park. It’s a historical and iconic area of San Diego that is a major historical complex in the city. In fact, it is actually the largest congregate of culture and arts west of the Mississippi! The area was originally created for the 1915-1916 Panama-California Exposition in San Diego and has remained ever since. When you venture to Balboa Park, you are sure to find something you love since the area includes 15 museums, a Tony Award winning theater, eight gardens and of course, the San Diego Zoo which has consistently been ranked as one of the best zoos in the entire world.

If you are looking for a nice relaxing walk, consider stopping by one of their gardens such as the Rose Garden, which has been voted as one of the top rose gardens in the world by the World Rose Society. Other gardens include the desert garden, Palm Canyon, and the Japanese Friendship Garden among others. Stop by the Old Globe Theatre where you can see Shakespeare plays and more. There are also a number of exciting museums to explore at the park.
