Chicano Park was founded in April of 1970 when the community of Barrio Logan, together with Chicano movement activities joined together to protest the construction of a Highway Patrol station which would have been at the present location of the park. After rallies and protests, the land was given back to the community and the park is now a center for the community to enjoy.
